An Explanation of the One Piece world.

Well I know that there are at least a few people who come to this site and don't know what the heck One Piece, The Grand Line, or Devils Fruit is. So I put this page up to try to give em a little explaination of what they see in the comic.

First up, the Devil's Fruit thing. A Devil's Fruit is something in the One Piece world that, when eaten, gives the user an incredible power of some sort, this is the so called "Power of the Devil". Now the ability is random, and in return you become cursed by the sea and are no longer able to swim. When a Devil's Fruit user falls into the ocean they become completely helpless and drown. Where these strange fruits come from is a mystery said to be held somewhere in the Grand Line. Those two weird things that Lan and Lillith found in the crate were Devils Fruits, they're worth a hellova lot of money on the market and taste horrible, obviously the girls didn't know that.

That being said, we now move to the Grand Line. This is the most dangerous and strange sea route in the One Piece world. The planet is crossed by two major lines like the Earth's Prime Meridian and Equator. These lines are the Red Line (A Wide Strip of land that separates the two seas) and the Grand Line. The Grand Line is encompassed on either side by the Calm Belts which are Sea Monster breeding grounds, making entry to and escape from the Grand Line nearly impossible. You must enter the sea lane through the Reverse Mountain passage which will not be explained here, you'll just have to read/watch the series to find out about that. (Not the 4kids version for the love of GOD)

In any case, the Grand Line is also called the "Pirates Graveyard", only the strongest and bravest sea-farers dare go there. "Why would people sail this dangerous place?" You may be asking yourself, well that brings us to the final point of this explaination, the One Piece.

The One Piece is something that is said to contain everything in the world, it was left behind by the era's Pirate King, Gold Roger. His last words before he was executed sent people to the seas; "You want my treasure? Go and find it! I left everything at that place!" And thus the Great Era of Piracy began.

Hope that cleared some things up!
